Who is The Mother?

May is for Mothers and we celebrated Mother’s Day last Sunday. We take this time every year to celebrate the moms in our own lives - with flowers, cards, perhaps breakfast in bed or a special brunch. It is also an opportunity to reflect on our relationship with the Mother energy, the feminine aspect of the divine, and how we perceive Her and how Her energy shows up in our daily lives.

Who is The Mother, really?

The Mother is everything and, as such, she can be anything. Being the force of God in the creation (shakti), she is by definition, the Holy Spirit. Quantum Physics is discovering 'Her' as the subtle vibratory field of energy that underlies everything. Everything in the universe is interconnected and we are indeed Her. She is The Nature. Mother Nature. She is unconditional love, pure devotion, and powerful protection. She is a gentle embrace always present in the hardest moments.

There is no power more fierce or more pure than a mother’s love.

This power is not always soft and gentle - think of how a mama bear roars when she is protecting her cubs or the power of a hurricane. Mother’s love is a force in the world. Learning to recognize it and work with it, rather than against it, will serve us all and save the planet.

There is no doubt that humanity's relationship with the Divine Mother is challenged. Our quality of our relationship with her is evidenced by how we treat the earth. She is ever so giving but we know no limits - we take and we take. We act entitled to live in areas where she clearly warns against it. We no longer eat the foods from the earth that she has given us, but choose over processed products with chemicals that poison us. We care not about the sacredness of the forest or the oceans or other species in our quest for development.

The quality of our relationship with her is evidenced by how we, as a society, treat women. Also by the fact that we have forgotten how to love properly and relationships are challenged. Often, even the relationship from mother to child is strained and difficult.

Our interconnectedness with the Divine Mother is the only relationship there is. We are her and she is us. It is through our own mother that we are directly linked to The Mother. It is through our own mother that we became part of this creation, born to Earth. Many of us may have troubled relationships in our matriarchal line, with our own mothers, or as mothers. We can begin to heal those karmic wounds by healing our relationship with Mother Divine.

There is no greater person in your life than your mother. It is the most powerful relationship in our lives and it can also be the most challenging. Acknowledge this and offer surrender and forgiveness if necessary. Spend time, when you can, as much as you can, with your own mother. If this is not physically possible, spend time connecting with her through prayer and meditation. There is no such thing as time, and therefore, no such thing as space. Love is limitless. Think of her and send your love there. This is transformative as she is your link to the creation and to the Divine Mother.

You can also connect most easily to Mother Divine within the beauty of nature. The brilliance of a sunset. A field of wildflowers. A towering tree. Spending time in the presence of Mother Earth will soften our hearts and allow our souls to receive the love of our Divine Mother. Loving one another, serving one another is also serving Her. Be kind to each other, be kind to the Earth and all the beings who reside here. This is the best way to honor Her.

She is available to each and every one of us - Always.
