Two weeks ago, Madhukara was called upon to help a kind, beautiful soul. Caroline was experiencing health issues and, like many in her situation, felt isolated, fearful, and uncertain. She did not have family nearby to help her and was unable to leave her home safely. Madhukara, through the power of our fiercely loving community, purchased and delivered her groceries. Caroline was so full of joy sharing her grocery list with us. She couldn't wait to prepare her most favorite dish, a Spanish omelet, or tortilla española, with the eggs and potatoes from her list. She told us that she would take a picture of the omelet as soon as she makes it.
After our board member Heather delivered the meal, she received the following text message from Caroline:
"Dear Heather - How do I thank you and Brooke and Madhukara enough for this amazing gift ,which has touched me more than you'll ever know. As I was telling Brooke, I haven't seen such a breathtaking gift and the abundance of it - as well as that of your heart- in my life. It inspires me that I can give in small ways, also give as I receive, be it a hug, a poem, a smile to a stranger as to a friend.
We are all in some way sharing the same planet and spirit; I believe in giving to each other and fellow humans what we receive. Also, to give, be it a smile, or a handkerchief, with love and not expecting- because that is the magic of love. Thank you forever for you!!!"
We did not receive a photo of Caroline's omelet.
A few days after we delivered groceries and received her message of gratitude, we learned that Caroline passed away. Our hearts ached, but we felt such a strong connection of love and gratitude from Caroline and for Caroline. It was such a powerful feeling! Although she experienced, at times, incredible darkness, it soothed us to know that in those last few days she felt love, connection, and trust. Not just from Madhukara, but from her incredible home care team that alerted us to Caroline's need for help.
Caroline reminded us that small gestures of love are miracles and they are present all around us. By spreading love and embracing gratitude, we have the ability to shift the collective consciousness from fear, darkness, and negativity to a heavenly experience on Earth, one individual at a time. Through a ripple effect of kindness and the recognition of everyday miracles, we have the power to transform the world "more than we'll ever know."
Before her passing, Caroline shared two poems that she had written. We would like to share her words with ALL in honor of her.
After Rain
I once got into the habit
of shedding layers of my skin every third day.
Glee and scents of magnolias
danced on their heads
the manner in which dashes and hyphens
twist these eyes blue with
a tourniquet.
Long shadows quiver
at the sight of puddles
after rain.

No Title
Between the tangerine and reason
There are borders
No lines to separate black from red
No borders between France and Spain
No demarcations when oceans melt into land
with foamy waves
No difference
No dogma
No right
No wrong
Two negatives become positive
amidst a mess
Rest in peace and in love, sweet Caroline. Forever our inspiration.
